Serbia's Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic said Tuesday Mexico and Serbia had excellent political relations and shared their views on the importance of international law and respect of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of UN members.

Serbia's Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic said Tuesday Mexico and Serbia had excellent political relations and shared their views on the importance of international law and respect of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of UN members.

"I thanked for the support to our policy towards Kosovo, which was reaffirmed during a recent UNESCO debate, where Mexico's vote was among those crucial to our efforts to prevent labelling the Serbian Orthodox Church monasteries in Kosovo as Kosovo's," Jeremic told Tanjug.

The Serbian official was in Mexico, where he met with his counterpart Patricia Espinosa and members of the Mexico-Serbia parliamentary friendship group.

He stated that he and Espinosa had discussed bilateral cooperation and the fight against organized crime.

"We exchanged draft agreements regarding that and several other areas. We expect the documents to be signed in the future," Jeremic noted.

The Serbian foreign minister said he and his Mexican colleague paid particular attention to Serbia's initiative to start an investigation into the allegations of human organ trafficking in Kosovo.

"I think there is no doubt that we have Mexico's full support on that issue. Mexico is not currently a member of the Security Council, but should the decision be up to any other UN body, I think we can count on Mexico's full support," he remarked.

Jeremic also met with the Mexico-Serbia parliamentary friendship group, which includes some of the most influential members of the Mexican parliament.

"We expect them to come visit Serbia soon. It is important to maintain relations on all levels. This is a large country, 112 million people, and it is important to maintain relations with the parliament, government and universities," Jeremic stated.

He also announced that a Belgrade University delegation would visit Mexico soon to explore the possibilities of cooperation in science and technology.
