The UN Security Council has set a closed meeting for Thursday, at Serbia's request, which will be used to discuss the situation in Kosovo, according to Reuters' sources in the council.

Reuters quoted anonimous sources, who stated that Russia had supported Serbia's request, while the UK and U.S. wished to wait until the next regular session on Kosovo.

The council chose to compromise in the end and scheduled a meeting for Thursday, but closed it off to the public.

Serbia asked for an urgent meeting back on Tuesday, as soon as the events in Kosovo started to unfold.

Germany is presiding over the council this month.
