Deputy leader of the Democratic Party (DS) Jelena Trivan stated that the incumbent government would be the first one with a full mandate in the democratic Serbia and added that the elections would be staged in due time, that is, in spring 2012.

Deputy leader of the Democratic Party (DS) Jelena Trivan stated that the incumbent government would be the first one with a full mandate in the democratic Serbia and added that the elections would be staged in due time, that is, in spring 2012.

Speaking about European integration in an interview for the Belgrade-based daily Danas, Trivan said that tangible results in the process of EU integration, candidacy and the date of accession talks would be the best argument for those who claim that the current government has not done enough or for the right motives.

Trivan said that she is not sure whether the action plan would be met down to the last letter, but she expressed certainty that all conditions for obtaining EU candidate status would be fulfilled, which means that the law on public property and the law on restitution would be submitted to the parliamentary procedure in September.

Commenting on the claims by Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) officials that the SNS will not join a coalition with the DS, Trivan said that the DS has been repeating over and over for two years now that the SNS is a party with which not even other opposition parties want to form a coalition, let alone a party whose system of values is diametrically opposite to that of the SNS.

She believes that membership of the Liberal Democratic Party in the new government would be a good chance to mobilise and reinforce the democratic and pro-European block, which would accelerate Serbia's EU path.
