The Organized Crime Prosecutor's Office brought charges against five former members of the Special Operations Unit (JSO) for perjury at the trial for the murder of Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic, the Prosecutor's Office said in a statement Wednesday.
Indictments have been brought against Mica Petrakovic, Dragoslav Krsmanovic, Aleksandar Popovic, Zoran Gulic and Bosko Jovic.
Jovic and Popovic are charged with giving false testimony under oath during hearings held January 11 and 15, 2007, before the special chamber of the Belgrade District Court, in which they said they were with Zvezdan Jovanovic on March 12, 2003, when Djindjic was killed.
Petrakovic, Krsmanovic and Gulic are charged with falsely testifying at a hearing held on January 16, 2007 that they saw Zvezdan Jovanovic at the helipad in Kula.
The statements are contradictory to the facts ascertained in the final judgment of the special chamber of the Belgrade District Court and were meant to provide an alibi for Zvezdan Jovanovic and thus dispute the indictment which stated he was the direct executor of the Djindjic assassination.
A main hearing will be scheduled on the indictment after it comes into legal force, notes the statement.
