Serbs in northern Kosovo spent the night on watch at the barricades, and the situation was peaceful throughout the province.

Serbs in northern Kosovo spent the night on watch at the barricades, and the situation was peaceful throughout the province.

EULEX should announce their decision on Monday on taking over the case of 13 arrested drivers of the Eurokop company from Raska, after the initiative State Secretary at the Serbian Ministry for Kosovo-Metohija Oliver Ivanovic lauched in the talks with EULEX representatives on Sunday.

If EULEX gives the green light, only one of the lawyers who is of Serbian nationality is ready to launch the necessary initiative for taking over the case, Ivanovic told Tanjug, adding that the arrest of the drivers is an attempt to get even with the Serbs who blocked Gates 1 and 31 (Jarinje and Brnjak) in northern Kosovo.

The barricades in northern Kosovo have been set on all major roads in the municipalities of Zvecan, Kosovska Mitrovica and Leposavic, as well as the Jarinje and Brnjak crossings, as a response to the deployment of non-operational Kosovo customs officers to Jarinje and Brnjak.

In view of the situation, KFOR Commander Erhard Drews told Tanjug in his first statement since assuming office that numerous protests and roadblocks in northern Kosovo prevent freedom of movement of not only KFOR and other international missions and organizations, but also citizens.

Drews said that the situation in north Kosovo is stable and expressed hope that a solution will be reached for the sake of citizens being looked for primarily at the political level.
