Serbia's Deputy Prime Minister for EU Integration Bozidar Djelic said Wednesday he did not believe Hungary's objections to Serbia's recently adopted restitution law and the Pride Parade ban would affect the European Commission's (EC) report on Serbia's EU membership application due October 12.

The restitution law is not discriminatory and the EC had no problems with it when they were presented with the document, Djelic told the Radio and Television of Serbia. Hungarian officials have stated that the law discriminated against Vojvodina's ethnic Hungarians because it denied those who joined the German occupation in World War Two the right to get their property back.

During a meeting of EU ambassadors on Thursday, the Hungarian ambassador drew attention to the issue. Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Vincent Degert stated there was no common model for restitution, while the German ambassador described the problem as Serbia's interior issue, Djelic noted. The Hungarian government could continue to press issue in EU institutions, he stressed.
