First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic and members of the Provincial security council of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina agreed today that the number of inter-ethnic incidents in Vojvodina has fallen this year compared to last year.

Dacic said at the meeting of the council, held in Temerin, that a stable state of inter-ethnic and inter-confessional relations has been maintained in Vojvodina, and that recent incidents in Temerin did not spur the deterioration of interethnic relations in the province.

A total of 108 incidents have been recorded that can be classified as inter-ethnic, and of this number in five cases there was physical violence.

Regardless of some incidents that took place, it can be said that there is a general tendency of decline of the number of inter-ethnic incidents, Dacic said and noted that according to statistics, this number is currently at its lowest since 2004.

Participants in the meeting agreed that cooperation of institutions at local, provincial and state level is of crucial importance for the prevention of inter-ethnic incidents.
