Dacic: Serbia's financial capability as a new condition for EU accession

Serbia's Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic stated Saturday that Serbia could get another precondition for the EU accession which would refer to its financial capability.
Dacic underlined that according to the data which he got 'a country is requesting to set a new condition for Serbia, aside Kosovo, referring to Serbia's financially capability to be a part of the European zone'.
“It is distasteful to talk about whether Serbia can financially be a part of Europe at the moment when the eurozone is falling apart,” Dacic said during a visit to Krusevac, central Serbia.
He has underlined that this indicates that new conditions, which other countries did not have to face when joining the EU, are being set before Serbia, and that in the last few years Serbia was a test case for different approaches.
Dacic underlined that Serbia should never renounce its goals and a search for better standards for its citizens, adding that the EU integration would undoubtedly entail better standards.
He added that nevertheless Serbia must not lose its dignity along the way, and cause a permanent damage to its national and state interests.
Delevic: Economic criterion applies to all
Serbian government's EU Integration Office Director Milica Delevic stated that the economic criterion has been applied to all countries that are interested in joining the EU since 1993.
On the occasion of the statement by Serbia's Deputy Prime Minister Ivica Dacic that Serbia could get another precondition for the EU accession which would refer to its financial capability, she explained that 'the economic criterion has been one of the criteria which applies to countries that are interested in the EU membership since 1993'.
“If you look at the opinion that the European Commission published on October 12 on Serbia's request and any other report published in the previous years, you will see that the Commission is giving an assessment of macroeconomic stability, challenges, reforms and financial sustainability,” Delevic stated for Belgrade TV B92 on Saturday.
