The National Bank of Serbia stated that talks between representatives of Serbia and the IMF, the goal of which is to reach an agreement relevant to the conclusion of the first revision of results in the implementation of the current stand-by arrangement, began in Belgrade yesterday and will last until 9 February.

The statement adds that during the IMF mission’s visit, the realisation of goals of the economic programme agreed upon with the IMF will be contemplated, as well as the macroeconomic framework for 2012 and the fulfillment of the criteria for December 2011.

Special attention will be paid to the issues of budget performance in 2012, implementation of established measures of fiscal policy and respect of defined fiscal rules.

The arrangement approved to Serbia on 29 September last year, to the amount of €1.1 billion of special drawing rights, was signed out of precaution, without an intention to use the funds, unless in the case of great need to cover the balance of payments.

The first discussion of the arrangement included talks with an IMF mission in November 2011 in Belgrade.

A plenary meeting of representatives of Serbia and the IMF delegation, led by Zuzana Murgasova, will be held on 6 February, the statement adds.
