The snow cover has gone up by 50 cm in southern Serbia in the last 24 hours, with 1,427 homes still impossible to reach by road, head of the department for emergency situations Predrag Maric has told Tanjug.

According to him, 3,575 people can only be reached by helicopter.

He noted that 21 people had died of cold so far, and that another 2 were missing.

Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said on Saturday he would suggest to the government to sign off on another RSD 105 million for the hard hit municipalities and extend the availability of additional equipment for snow clearing by several days.

He said at a meeting of the national headquarters for emergency situations Serbia was slowly coming out of the emergency.
