American soft drinks giant PepsiCo Inc. has increased to 100% its stake in Serbian potato chips producer Marbo Product for an undisclosed sum, Serbian news agency Tanjug reported on Wednesday.

According to the Serbian Business Registry website, the Pepsi Investments Company, a Pepsi subsidiary with headquarters in the Netherlands, has become the outright owner of Marbo Produkt’s assets.

Marbo Produkt, whose head office is in Belgrade, produces savory snacks.

According to the company’s website, Marbo Produkt employs more than 1,000 people in Serbia, Croatia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Banja Luka daily Nezavisne writes that Pepsi has also bought Marbo’s factory in the Republic of Srpska (RS). Last month, the Bosnia-Herzegovina Competition Council considered Pepsi’s application for acquisition of the Laktaš factory.

The Competition Council approved the application stating that the acquisition of Marbo would not harm competitiveness, and that the takeover would not lead to one company claiming a dominant position on the savory snack market in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Marbo’s assets include a factory in Bački Malić, close to Novi Sad, which came into operation in 1995, while the factory in Laktaš was built in 2000, states the company website.

According to Serbian Business Registry data, Marbo made a EUR 12.5mn profit last year, 50 percent up on 2006. In 2007, the company’s revenue totaled some EUR 50mn.

According to press reports, Marbo owns firms and distribution centers in Croatia, Albania, Greece, Macedonia and Montenegro.
