Serbian authorities had addressed the World Health Organization, which offered its support. UNMIK customs have quoted lack of permits issued by the Kosovo Drug Agency as reasons for keeping the medicine.
Director of the Health Center in Gracanica in central Kosmet, Rada Trajkovic expressed concern because UNMIK has been keeping medicine intended for clinics in that area for over 20 days.
The medicine is kept in inadequate conditions which can affect their durability, said Trajkovic and added that there is no announcement about when they can be sent to the clinics.
Trajkovic accused UNMIK that by keeping the medicine from central Serbia it was jeopardizing the lives of patients and that they were doing so based on false procedures to cover up their responsibility for previous similar acts.
Medicine sent from central Serbia since the proclamation of independence of Kosovo has been kept several times at customs in the southern part of Kosovska Mitrovica.
