Three members of the Kosovo Police Service were injured on Monday evening in the Bosnjacka mahala area, in northern Kosovska Mitrovica. They were attacked by Albanians living in that part of the divided town.

It was announced from the police command in northern Mitrovica that the patrol with three policemen was attacked first by two Kosovo Albanians and several other Albanians took part in the incident later, when a KPS member was injured.

The police arrested two Albanians that had caused the incident. It was announced in the Kosovska Mitrovica hospital that three policemen were admitted and were subsequently released, having been attended to.

Tanjug learns that police has increased its presence in the Bosnjacka mahala area.

The vice-president of the Union of Serb Municipalities in Kosmet, Marko Jaksic, said that by causing such incidents, Albanians want to intimidate the remaining Serbs and make them leave the Province.

Today, late in the afternoon, two Albanians stabbed a 16-year old Serb boy Nikola Bozovic with a knife in Kosovska Mitrovica and because of that Serbs started gathering around bridges on the Ibar River.

Bozovic was stabbed near the main bridge on the Ibar and admitted in the Mitrovica hospital with grave wounds where doctors are fighting for his life.

Due to this incident the situation is very tense in northern Mitrovica, mostly populated by Serbs. Revolted citizens set fire to several facilities in use by Albanians and smashed a few cars in this part of the town.

Another incident occurred in Mitrovica earlier, when Deputy President of the Municipality Ljubisa Petrovic was assaulted by several Albanians near the eastern bridge in the northern part of the town.

Serb agencies report that in the multiethnic part of the town called Three Skyscrapers shooting was heard but it is not known who is shooting.

Agencies state that the KPS arrested two Albanians fleeing from the place where Nikola Bozovic was stabbed. They were running away over the bridge separating the town into the northern part with Serb majority and the southern, Albanian part.

The KPS announced that one of the arrested Albanians had a knife.

Except for members of the local KPS, members of the international police cannot be seen in the streets. KFOR soldiers are present in the town in very small numbers.

Serb boy Nikola Bozovic, has been operated on tonight and he is stable – stated Director of the Mitrovica hospital Vladimir Adzic. According to him, Bozovic was stabbed in the side and transferred to the intensive care unit after the surgery.

Meanwhile, two more persons were admitted in the surgery ward for light wounds they got in incidents that occurred following the wounding of the Serb boy.

The main bridge on the Ibar is closed and guarded by KFOR members.

Agencies report that a police chopper is flying over the town where the situation is somewhat more peaceful but still very tense.
