The Maldives have recognized Kosovo, thus becoming the 55th state to do so, announced Kosovo Foreign Minister Skender Hyseni on Feb. 19.

He told the press in Pristina that he had received a letter from the foreign minister of the Maldives, in which he informs him that the country had recognized Kosovo.

The Maldives are located in the Indian Ocean, and their population is mostly Islamic.
