GTZ Country Director Uwe Stumpf to open a LED office in Zajecar

On Monday, March 23rd, 2009, GTZ Country Director, Mr. Uwn Stumpf will attend the Local Economic Development Office inauguration and press conference in Zajecar.

Development Office inauguration and press conference in Zajecar.

The key note speakers at the press conferencewill be Mr. Boško Nicic, the Mayor of Zajecar, Mr. Uwe Stumpf, GTZ Country Director, Vladan Jeremic, Director of Regional Agency for Development of Eastern Serbia (RARIS), and Dr.Alexander Grunauer, Director of GTZKWD Project for Municipal Economic Development in the Danube Region.

The Local Economic Development Office in Zajecar has been established in June 2009 with the support from the German development organization GTZ, and is a sign of partnership between the German Government, Zajecar and RARIS.

On March 23rd, the GTZ Country Director will officially hand over the sign marking the LED Office to Mayor , as a sign of the fruitful cooperation which will continue in time to come.

Serbian consulting firm Development Consulting Group (DCG) was contracted by GTZ-KWD Project for Municipal Economic Development in the Danube Region to provide training and technical assistance to Zajecar necessary for the establishment and effective functioning of the LED Office.

The LED Office is an instrumental vehicle in the supervision of the Local Economic Development Strategic
Planning process, which is currently ongoing in Zajecar, also with GTZ’s support.

The Office will also serve as a key contact point to all potential investors, and existing large, small and medium size enterprises operating in Zajecar. Additionally, it will support to the start-up business to generate more employment.

The LED Office should ensure long term, sustainable development of Zajecar. It is anticipated that the ceremony will gather representatives of local governments from the region, private sector and civil sector representatives, and media.

The senior representatives of Sokobanja, Majdanpek and Golubac, who are participating in the GTZ-KWD Project for Municipal Economic Development in the Danube Region, will are also expected.
