Carmaker Giant in Heart of Europe

By 2012, Slovakia will manufacture 840.713 passenger vehicles annually, a higher per capita number than any other country in the world.
Volkwagen, Peugeot and Kia either already have or are preparing to start production in their Slovakia plants, drawn by cheap labor, low taxes and the geographical position of the country. However, the new factories have already employed the available workforce, prompting employers to offer awards or even start looking for new workers abroad. At least 40,000 new jobs will be created in Slovakia in the automobile industry in the next three to four years, which will bring the number to 100,000, almost twice as much as two years ago. Some investors, such as the joint U.S. Ford and German auto-parts maker GETRAG, are already located in the less-populated eastern Slovakia, attracted by a large number of trained workers and the proximity of the rising eastern European markets, such as Russia.
