Belgrade’s First Casino in June

Casinos Austria International will open its casino in Belgrade by the end of June, at the Hotel Jugosalvija, investing EUR 60mn.
The company’s CEO Paul Herzfeld said the project, as one of the largest of its kind, would set new standards for the entire European market. The casino will spread on 5,500 sq meters, with 250 slot machines and 25 tables, international restaurants, cocktail bars and shops. According the State Lottery of Serbia director Bojan Krist, the opening of the casino will boost Belgrade’s tourist offer and create 300 jobs. During the first year, the casino is expected to pull in at least EUR 25 to 30mn. Serbia-based Grand Casino has been awarded the gaming license to open the casino for EUR 18mn, with 51 percent of that company’s stock owned by Casinos Austria International. The company owns 72 casinos in 18 countries, as well as 10 luxury cruisers, and employs 10,400 people. 2006 saw record revenues for the company at EUR 1.26bn, a 7.6 percent increase compared to the year before.
