The death toll from recent eruptions of the Mount Merapi volcano in Indonesia has risen to 259, after the main eruption on October 26, Indonesian officials confirmed Monday.

National Disaster Management Agency stated that the number of victims is at least 259, since the “black” list included the persons who died out of respiratory problems, heart attacks and other diseases caused by the volcano eruptions.

The Mount Merapi volcano is still rumbling and spewing searing ash and debris, volcanologist Dr Surono said, although he noticed that the volcano activity is decreasing, the Associated Press reported.

After almost three weeks spent in crowded reception camps, people started returning to their homes.
