Indonesia issues highest red alert level for possible eruption of Mount Bromo volcano, which usually activates once a year.
The Indonesian government warned local inhabitants and tourists to keep away from the mount’s slopes, after volcano started gushing ashes, agency AP reports.
In recent series of Merapi volcano eruptions more than 300 people died. Bromo, however, rarely erupts ashes and hot gases far from the crater, and the surrounding villages are usually not endangered.
Locals often hike on Mount Bromo, high 2,329 meters and situated on Java island.
