Fire brigade declared state of emergency in German capital, Berlin Thursday after more than 180 people were injured due to falls on black ice, and airports cancelled great number of flights, Reuters reported.
Fire brigade declared state of emergency in German capital, Berlin Thursday after more than 180 people were injured due to falls on black ice, and airports cancelled great number of flights, Reuters reported.
"The fire brigade declared a state of emergency at 8.40 a.m. (local time) due to black ice and the increased number of rescue missions related to it," the fire brigade said on its website.
The brigade had received about 50 percent more rescue calls regarding injured persons than normal.
Ice also caused traffic accidents all over Germany, Reuters agency reported.
Trains and public transport were delayed and pedestrians in cities took to the streets to avoid slippery pavements.
There were no flights for two hours at the Tegel international airport and 15 flights were cancelled. There were also delays at Schoenefeld airport as the airfields had to be cleared of ice.
