Documentary on environmental protection 'Winter Fruits' by Serbian director Bosko Savkovic won the award for the best environmental documentary film at the festival in Cannes.

According to a release issued by the International Festival of Tourist and Environmental Film SilaFest, Savkovic's film became the first Serbian documentary to triumph in Cannes, not counting Emir Kusturica's feature films.

Over 160 directors of documentary films from 65 countries greeted Savkovic by a standing ovation as he came to the stage late on Thursday to receive the Gold Dolphin award for the best environmental documentary at the festival, acting on behalf of the production group (Uncompromised Intellectuals of Belgrade).

The film, which deals with the topic of plastic bags scattered all over Belgrade, was made with the support by the City of Belgrade Secretariat for Environmental Protection and with the help of camera students from the Belgrade Faculty of Dramatic Arts.

In the course of 2011, Savkovic's film won a number of awards at festivals of documentary, tourist and environmental film in Portugal, Russia, Poland, Brazil, Lithuania and Romania.
