According to Stavreski, Macedonia should promote its comparative advantages, hoping investors would recognize the difference.
Finance Minister Zoran Stavreski expects majority of Greek investors to maintain their business in FYRMacedonia and announced the country would cope with the effects of the Greek economic crisis through its comparative advantages and continual discipline in the fiscal policy, accompanied by achievement of favorable macroeconomic indicators.
"The possible closure of the Greek border due to strikes or social unrest will surely influence the trade volume. Greek investors look to places with lowest costs in order to resume their business. Those costs are much lower in Macedonia than in Greece, so I expect most of them to maintain their businesses here", said FinMin Stavreski in response to journalists' questions.
According to him, the crisis in Greece has turned into a European one. Yesterday's reduction of the "Standard & Poor's" credit rating of Greece, Portugal and Spain means the crisis is enlarging, becoming an issue of Eurozone's economic growth and its coping with the issue of increasing debt by several members.
Stavreski said the perception of investors for Greece, but also for the region in general, will automatically worsen, which does not benefit the Republic of Macedonia.
"Unfortunately, there is not much we can do other than continue to lead a disciplined fiscal policy and achieve favorable macroeconomic indicators. Taking into consideration business conditions, budget deficit and GDP, Macedonia represents a stable economy unlike other countries and has no problem with foreign indebtedness", he added.
According to Stavreski, Macedonia should promote its comparative advantages, hoping investors would recognize the difference.
