Likewise, there are an increasing number of wind power projects and the competition is fierce on the wood and wood processing market.
Overall the financial analysts estimate that this year’s FDI could reach approximately EUR 5 bln, a level similar to last year’s but only half the peak level registered in 2008. Iberdrola opened an office in Bucharest in 2009 and announced plans to develop wind power projects totalling 1,600 MWh.
Iberdrola has already invested EUR 300 M and states that the total sum could reach EUR 2 bln in several years’ time. On the other hand, Czech Republic’s CEZ utilities group only needs Transelectrica’s approval in order to start producing wind power in Dobrogea.
Moreover, this week Ford Romania started producing cars in its Craiova plant after it previously assembled a light commercial vehicle there.
Three producers of car parts, Ford’s traditional suppliers, recently announced that they will open production centres within the Craiova Industrial Park. The three producers are: Germany’s Kirchhoff Automotive, Belgium’s Afmech NV and Italy’s Rochling Automotive.
Renault Technologie Roumanie (RTR) will inaugurate the Technical Centre in Titu on September 15, 2010. The project, announced as far back as 2006, called for an estimated investment of EUR 450 M.
On the other hand, Finland’s Tornator wants to buy 100,000 hectares of forest in following years, its investment being estimated at EUR 300 M.
According to ‘Ziarul Financiar,’ Turkey’s Kastamonu Entegre, the owner of Prolemn, has announced an investment of EUR 100 M in order to build a solid wood plank plant in Reghin.
