The economic crisis left its mark and negative effects on road goods transport because transporters in Macedonia faced with increased expanses, decreased profit, which resulted in smaller investment in new vehicles and employees reduction.

Zlatko Kocovski, CEO of Skopje-based company Makedonija Soobrakaj AMERIT, member of International Road Transport Union (IRU), said in the interview with MIA.

Goods transport in freight road transport marks growth by 14.6% this year compared to last year, but Kocovski emphasised that the noted statistical growth is too omptimistic and does not reflect the real environment.

Kocovski said that the growth is a result of increased goods transport for own needs by 48.7% due to positive growth in construction, which noted annual growth rate of 7.7% in 2010.

Kocovski pointed out the problems that transporters are facing with in Macedonia as green card, expensive credits, increase of price of oil, as well as unfair competition, which dictates lower process.

He also said that electronic distribution of licenses for international goods transport significantly reduced the administration burden for the transporters and increased the efficiency in approval and issuance of licenses as well as full elimination of irregularities
