Since the end of November 2010, heavy rains in Bosnia and Herzegovina caused serious flooding in many areas of the country. The municipalities of Gorazde, in the eastern part of the Federation of BiH, and Bijeljina, in eastern Republika Srpska, have suffered the worst.

In response to the severe flooding in BiH, the U.S. Ambassador has declared a disaster, allowing the U.S. Government to provide humanitarian assistance to the people most impacted.

To help meet pressing needs identified by the BiH Red Cross and local governments, through USAID, we will provide $50,000 in emergency relief. This relief is scheduled for delivery in select communities starting the week of December 20.

The United States stands ready to provide further assistance as additional needs are identified by government officials and the Red Cross of BiH.

To date, the U.S. Government, primarily through USAID, has provided more than $1.5 billion in assistance to support economic, democratic and social progress in BiH.
