Albanian authorities seized Tuesday a tonne of cannabis at a border with Greece and detained one person, police spokesperson Gentian Mullai stated.
After the drug was found in his truck, Artan Bresha was arrested, the AFP reported.
Cannabis, whose value would reach USD 680.000 on the European markets, was produced in the village of Lazaret, 230 kilometers south of the Albanian capital, Tirana, which for years has not been under the control of authorities.
According to the UN data, Albania has been a main European marijuana supplier for years.
Although the Albanian authorities annually destroy between 70.000 and 100.000 plants, international experts estimate that there are still many regions in the country that are still zones that escape controls of the authorities.
