Bulgaria, Turkey to build new gas pipeline

Bulgaria and Turkey will sign a political agreement on the construction of a bilateral gas link that will be of strategic importance to Sofia and Ankara. The agreement was made in Istanbul by the respective energy ministers Traycho Traykov and Taner Yıldız.

The two senior officials conferred within the framework of the Black Sea Energy and Economic Forum. The new gas pipeline will supply natural gas from the Caspian Sea to Bulgaria and the countries in the region which together with the interconnector with Greece.

That means diversification of sources and routes, as well as competitiveness among suppliers and lower prices for gas deliveries to Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Economy, Energy and Tourism Minister pointed out.

The future gas pipeline will be 77 km long and will have a capacity of 3 billion cubic metres per year.
