The European Parliament green-lighted on Thursday Croatia's EU accession and the draft resolution on its application for membership.

Croatian media reported that 564 deputies voted yes, 38 were against and 32 abstained.

After this, the next step is for the Council of the EU to confirm Croatia's accession at its meeting on December 5.

The treaty should be signed four days later. Croatia will have observer status at the next summit of the European Council.

A delegation of the Croatian parliament is in Brussels for the occasion, led by Parliament Speaker Luka Bebic.

The Croatian parliament discussed the same issue on Wednesday, with all but one member voting in favour of Croatia's accession.

Croatia should become a full member of the EU on July 1, 2013.
