The remains of 39-year-old Vodafone Hellas executive Costas Tsalikidis, who was found hanged at his apartment in Athens’ Kolonos district just days after a major phone-tapping scandal involving the company came to light, were exhumed on Thursday.

The exhumation was ordered after prosecutor Haralambos Lakafossis decided to reopen the case into the circumstances surrounding Tsalikidis’ death.

His family has rejected suicide as the cause of his death, underlining that he was found dead on March 9, 2005, the day after a meeting held at the Vodafone Hellas following the discovery of the illegal eavesdropping software and shortly after he had called the company’s headquarters.

Tsalikidis’ death had with the phone-tapping scandal in which the mobile phone company network was breached, with phone taps targeting members of the then government, including PM Costas Karamanlis, and other high-standing individuals.
