Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Friday said his country would make every effort for Bosnia-Herzegovina's accession to NATO in the shortest possible time.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Friday said his country would make every effort for Bosnia-Herzegovina's accession to NATO in the shortest possible time.

"We have secured multi-national backing at the latest NATO Foreign Ministers' meeting in Brussels that included Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Romania, Greece and other countries of the region. And Turkey will do everything to launch Bosnia-Herzegovina's NATO membership action plan in September as scheduled," Davutoglu told Anadolu Agency after visiting the mausoleum of Alija Izetbegovic, the first president of Bosnia-Herzegovina, in the Bosnian capital of Sarajevo together with Bakir Izetbegovic, the Bosniak member of the Presidency of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Davutoglu said this was his first trip to Bosnia-Herzegovina since the formation of the new government, adding that reconciliation over the new government would help the country make significant progress in a short time.

Responding to a question over Serbia's general elections set for Sunday, Davutoglu said Serbia was a very important country of the region and it could make major contributions to peace in the Balkans.

Izetbegovic, on his part, said that he was set to discuss with Davutoglu Bosnia-Herzegovina's European Union and NATO integration in a meeting later on Friday.

"High on the agenda of hour meeting today will be Bosnia-Herzegovina's EU and NATO membership, where we receive strong support and assistance from Turkey," Izetbegovic said.
