The document, marked confidential, contains the letter of UN mediator Matthew Nimetz to countries' negotiators Nikola Dimitrov and Adamantios Vassilakis, a proposal for a solution of the name, and annex to the proposal, which focuses on identity issues.
MIA obtained the original document from the proposal by Matthew Nimetz of 7 October 2005.
The document, marked confidential, contains the letter of UN mediator Matthew Nimetz to countries' negotiators Nikola Dimitrov and Adamantios Vassilakis, a proposal for a solution of the name, and annex to the proposal, which focuses on identity issues.
Igor Dzundev from Macedonia's Permanent Mission to the United Nations later forwarded the proposal to former President Branko Crvenkovski, ex-PM Vlado Buckovski and former FM Ilinka Mitreva.
The proposal clearly states that identity issues would be contained in the annex, where the nationality box does not read 'Macedonian', but term 'Citizens of the Republic of Macedonia'.
In the box regarding the language, there is no reference to 'Macedonian', but 'macedc'.
The 2005 proposal was accepted by all parties but VMRO-DPMNE, with leader Nikola Gruevski abandoning the meeting. In recent days, the ruling party accused Crvenkovski that he introduced the identity issues in the talks with Greece by accepting the proposal. On the other hand, the SDSM leader said the proposal guaranteed identity issues.
In December 2009, former Greek FM Dimitris Droutsas told the country's parliament that identity issues were introduced in the negotiations through the Nimetz proposal of October 2005.
