With the goal of Almami Moreira in sixth minute, after the big mistake in Red Star defence, Partrizan players gained advantage of 1:0 in the derby match of the Serbian championship ninth round and kept that result until the end of the 139th eternal derby.

The match was played at the Red Cross stadium, in front of 20,000 viewers, in an atmosphere typical for the two greatest domestic clubs’ matches.

Until now, no incidents were noted at the stadium, or around it.

There is a strikingly large number of police officers throughout Belgrade. Strong police forces are gathered along the central part of the route to the stadium, and police force members are visibly positioned on the paths going toward the stadium.

The realization of the most important game in our football was under a large question mark after the recent hooligan incidents in Belgrade and the termination of the qualification match between Serbian and Italian representations for the placement to European championship 2012 in Poland and Ukraine, 11 days ago in Genoa.

At the meeting of European Super League association and our two most awarded clubs’ officials with the police representatives, it was decided that the match between Red Star and Partizan will be played in the presence of audience in the afternoon term, starting at 1 pm.

At the demand of police, the capacity of the Red Star stadium (so-called, Marakana), which can host 54,000 viewers, was drastically limited for the game on Saturday, and the derby will be played in the presence of maximally 30,000 people.

Red Star, having learned a lesson from previous matches against “black-and-whites,” even before the decision on special conditions for the match’s organization, decided to remove seats from the south stand of the stadium, where the current Serbian champion’s most loyal supporters gather traditionally. Also, the capacity of the Marakana’s south stand capacity is downsized from 12,000 seats to about 8,000 seats, with the purpose of the optimal match organization.

Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic announced that approximately 5,000 police officers will take care of keeping public order in the Serbian capital on the day of the derby, emphasizing that number is “enough” for maintaining the safety. For the 139th derby, the supporters that are not subscribed for the Red Star tickets, were able to obtain the tickets during previous 48 hours, because box offices were opened only during previous two days, non-stop.

The gates of the Red Star stadium were opened at 10 am, i.e. three hours before the beginning of the match, and since then the streets around the stadium are closed for traffic.

Red Star, which did not manage to beat Partizan in two and a half years, is now ahead in the Serbian championship with three points more than the current state champion.
