Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vuk Jeremic said today at the "Days of Latin America" conference that Serbia is working on improving economic relations with Latin American countries.

Closing the conference, which was also attended by Foreign Affairs Minister of Uruguay Luis Almagro, Jeremic said that the Serbian government is working to create conditions for direct investment in Serbia from Latin American countries.

The Serbian people and state have a long history of friendship with the countries of Latin America, reminded the Minister and thanked all the countries of Latin America that have not recognised Kosovo-Metohija's independence.

The Minister reiterated that the solution to the status of the southern Serbian province cannot be found without the consent of all parties and added that Serbia's position has not changed, and that our country will never recognise Kosovo-Metohija's independence.

He said that Serbia wants mutual understanding and mutual respect with all nations that see Serbia as an equal partner.

He stressed that Serbia continues a proactive policy and building relations with countries around the world, adding that Serbia’s strategic goal is membership in the EU.

Almagro said that Uruguay will not recognise Kosovo's independence and that it appreciates the efforts of Serbia to strengthen and promote democracy, human rights and international standards.

He expressed the hope that the process of Serbia’s European integration will be accelerated and added that Uruguay wants to strengthen ties with Serbia, especially in trade, investment, energy, culture, sports, safety and education.

Brazilian Ambassador to Serbia Dante Coelho De Lima said that the political relations between Serbia and Brazil have always been at a high level and expressed his hope that they will be improved further when it comes to economic and trade cooperation.
