Serbia's Consul General in Chicago Desko Nikitovic stated on Thursday that in addition to the usual tasks it fulfils, the Serbian Consulate is also trying to conduct an active economic diplomacy and make the U.S. market more available to Serbia.

Serbia's Consulate General covers a very vast area, which takes up almost two thirds of the U.S, Nikitovic said in an interview for the Voice of America, and added that ever since it started working, the Consulate demonstrated an interest in participating actively in the field of economic diplomacy.

He explained that, in addition to the usual procedures the Consulate conducts, there are huge potentials for economic diplomacy, and added that a couple of weeks ago, the Consulate got a new economic advisor whose job would cover the entire territory of the U.S.

Nikitovic said that the Consulate maintains very good relations with businessmen and companies in the U.S., and expressed hope regarding the future activities of the Consulate and its economic advisor.

He noted that the Serbian Consulate General in Chicago is also investing huge efforts with the aim of establishing direct airlines between Serbia and the U.S.
