Poland is the 22nd EU member country that ratified the SAA between the EU and Serbia. There are still five more countries to do the same - France, Holland, Belgium, Romania and Lithuania.
Poland ratified the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) between the EU and Serbia with a signature by Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski, the Polish Embassy in Belgrade told Tanjug Thursday.
Polish Charge d'Affaires at the Polish Embassy in Belgrade Pawel Czerwinski said that his country had ratified the document, honoring in that way the promise that Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk had given during his visit to Belgrade on May 6, when he had stated the SAA ratification process would be finished by the end of the current year.
The Sejm (the lower house of the Polish parliament) adopted the relevant ratification law on August 31, and the Senate (the upper house) did the same on September 13. The Polish president signed the SAA ratification law on October 5, according to his website.
Czerwinski said the Polish parliament had ratified the document while the body had still been in the old composition, as the new composition would be made up as late as on November 9, following the October 9 elections in the country.
