Serbian Deputy Prime Minister for European integration Bozidar Djelic said Thursday that Ireland would vote for granting the candidate status of Serbia on December 9, if the country meets the requirements of the European Commission.
Djelic told Tanjug that this is a promise given at his meeting in Dublin with Irish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Eamon Gilmore.
According to Djelic, it was agreed that next year, Gilmore will visit Serbia and that a visit of an Irish economic and trade delegation to Serbia will be organized to foster Ireland's investments in Serbia.
The meeting also focused on regional cooperation and the way in which Ireland sees the development of the European Union and the place of Western Balkan countries in its future enlargement, Djelic said.
Djelic also visited Trinity college. Earlier in the day, Djelic presented in the Irish Parliament Serbia's progress in the field of European integration and invited the Irish MPs to visit Serbia. He urged them to voice their views on the resolution of relations between Belgrade and Pristina with respect to their own experience with regard to Northern Ireland.
