Former director of the Serbian Institute of Oncology and Radiology Nenad Borojevic, who had been charged with malpractices in connection with cytostatic medications, hanged himself, Tanjug learned at the Higher Court in Belgrade.
Borojevic was found dead in the Kosutnjak wood. The court officials said the police will release further details, and a motive for the suicide. Borojevic was released from prison pending trial. He was forbidden from leaving his place of residence, but was allowed to move around Belgrade under the electronic surveillance of the Administration in charge of enforcement of criminal sanctions.
Borojevic and other eight suspects have been tried before the Special Court in Belgrade for having concluded a deal with representatives of the pharmaceutical companies in the period ranging from March 2007 to 2009 to provide them in advance with data on consumption of cytostatic medications, as well as regarding the procedures related to public procurement.
At the outset of the trial, Borojevic denied that he had taken a bribe, as well as that he had headed the group suspected of violating the regulations on the tenders for the supply of cytostatic medications. Borojevic was arrested on June 30, 2010 in the police operation dubbed “kraba” (crab), on suspicion of taking a bribe from pharmaceutical companies.
