First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic said in Washington that many US congressmen he spoke with expressed the view that a sustainable solution for Kosovo should be found which would be lasting and include the interests of both Serbian and Albanian people.

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic said in Washington that many US congressmen he spoke with expressed the view that a sustainable solution for Kosovo should be found which would be lasting and include the interests of both Serbian and Albanian people.

In an interview with Serbian media correspondents in Washington last night, Dacic called for better bilateral relations between Serbia and the United States.

He reiterated that he was promised that a group of congressmen will send a latter to officials of the EU and the United States as a sign of support to Serbia’s EU integration and appeal for a positive decision on Serbia’s EU candidacy.

We need to build bilateral relations with America and look for a common denominator in that, given that the United States is the greatest power in the world and Serbia the biggest country in the Balkans and that there can be no regional peace and stability without the participation of Serbia, the First Deputy Prime Minister stated.

On the last day of his visit to the United States, Dacic visited the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Maryland police.

At the meeting with DEA Chief of Operations Thomas Harrigan, Dacic exchanged views on the very successful cooperation of the Ministry of the Interior, police and security structures of Serbia with this agency.

Dacic said that there is a high degree of mutual trust, that cooperation with the FBI and DEA is on a very high level and it will be continued this year.

We have had many joint operations, many of them are underway but our task in the period to come is to consider the possibility to open a DEA office in Belgrade and to include other countries of the region in this cooperation, Dacic stated.

In this sense, I expect the DEA Director and Chief of Operations Thomas Harrigan to visit Belgrade within next few months, Dacic underlined.

The meeting with representatives of the Maryland police dealt with the possibility of advanced training of Serbian policemen, especially those in charge of public peace and order, taking into account that there is an academy for training of police officers in Maryland.
