Serbian President Boris Tadic said on Friday that he has received assurances that the Serbian dinar will stabilize and that what happened with the national currency is a consequence of financial transactions in our market.

Serbian President Boris Tadic said on Friday that he has received assurances that the Serbian dinar will stabilize and that what happened with the national currency is a consequence of financial transactions in our market.

We have a floating exchange rate. This is good, bearing in mind the structure of our economy, but there should be no major oscillations in the rate, Tadic said.

He also said that the weakening of dinar mostly affects the standard of living and added that every citizen wants to know whether the exchange rate is predictable.

Tadic pointed out that citizens need to know with what certainty they can pay their credit obligations.

He also noted that the exchange rate is very important for small businessmen.

As he put it, the status of an EU candidate can be correlated with the exchange rate.

I intend to head delegations of small and medium businessmen of Serbia, as a country with EU candidate status, he said, and added that he has already conferred with businessmen in several Italian, German and Austrian regions, and that he will have a special discussion on the matter with Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti.
