NBS sells EUR 40 million, dinar stagnates

The National Bank of Serbia (NBS) sold EUR 40 million and stopped the drop of the dinar, and the official middle exchange rate will thus remain the same on Friday and total RSD 111.0697, NBS released.

Without the latest intervention, the central bank sold EUR 328.5 million on the inter-bank foreign exchange market since the beginning of the year in order to ease excessive daily volatility of the exchange rate.

On the monthly level, the dinar will drop against the euro by 1.7 per cent, and on the annual level the drop would total 7.1 per cent.

The indicative exchange rate of the dinar against the U.S. dollar totalled RSD 84.3418 on Wednesday and was by 0.5 per cent lower than on the previous day.

Compared to the previous month, the dinar dropped against the dollar by 2.4 per cent, while the drop totalled 13.6 per cent relative to the previous year.
