Bozidar Djelic, former Serbian deputy prime minister and member of the Democratic Party Presidency, is one of the five candidates for the post of president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

"This is a great honour for me, and I believe for Serbia as well, since this is the first time that a Serb competes for one of the most important positions in the global financial sector," Djelic told Tanjug on Friday.

My components come from four big EU countries - Germany, France, Great Britain and Poland, he added.

Representatives of 66 EBRD shareholders should decide on the new president in mid-May, and this is the first time that more than one candidate is running the post.

Djelic said that the candidacy would not affect his engagement in the election campaign.
