EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuele presented on Tuesday to the Pristina authorities a document that marks the formal launch of the feasibility study, calling on them to reform the public administration as a precondition for the establishment of trade relations in keeping with the recommendations delivered by the European Commission (EC).

Fuele presented the document at the first meeting of the newly created National Council for European Integration which was formed as part of the office of Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga.

This marked the start of the implementation of the decision which was reached in the EC following the agreement on regional representation.

The feasibility study will determine Kosovo's integration policies, Fuele said, adding that he will closely monitor the process of meeting European standards, and give recommendations with regard to future steps.

The inaugural meeting of the National Council for European Integration was attended by Kosovo's senior officials, representatives of political parties and civic society.

Prior to the meeting, President Jahjaga had a meeting with Commissioner Fuele, which focused on the issues related to the Council's work, integration of minorities into Kosovo's society and necessity for the implementation of agreements reached during the technical talks between Kosovo and Serbia.
