Nicaragua refused to withdraw their army from a territory at dispute by the border with Costa Rica, although they admit they occupied the region only because it was marked by mistake as Nicaraguan land in Google maps.
British daily “The Guardian” reports that this is a 200-year-old border dispute between two countries and that this time the twist happened when a Nicaraguan official in charge of the works in the territory at dispute stated in an interview in Costa Rica that he used Google maps to determine where the works were to be conducted.
In the meantime, the Google acknowledged the mistake in marking the border between Nicaragua and Costa Rica and promised to make the necessary corrections as soon as possible. They also criticised Nicaragua authorities for using Google maps in making sensitive decisions concerning a territory in dispute.
“The Guardian” noted that this week Google was involved in another territorial dispute when, by mistake, presented a small Spanish island as Moroccan territory, BBC reported.
