Almost 40.000 citizens of Moscow, Tver and Smolen region still without power supply Tuesday due to power lines cuts caused by fall of tree branches, snowdrifts and strong winds, Russian news agencies reported.

Almost 40.000 citizens of Moscow, Tver and Smolen region still without power supply Tuesday due to power lines cuts caused by fall of tree branches, snowdrifts and strong winds, Russian news agencies reported.

Starting 10.00 p.m. January 2, the regime of emergency situation was imposed in 18 districts and four towns of the Moscow region.

The public relations centre of the Russian Ministry for Emergencies told Itar-Tass that 277 villages and towns in 11 districts remain without electricity in the Moscow Region. A total of 14,235 homes with a population of 37,732 have no electricity.

109 villages with 2.571 residents in the Tver region lack power supply, and there is only one village in Smolensk region waiting to be linked to the power grids, Itar-Tass reported.
