Eight people were hurt in the capital of Jordan Friday during clashes between government supporters and opponents who demand greater freedom and lower food prices.
The Amman protest drew about 2,000 people, including hard-line leftists, Muslim conservatives and students calling for reduced power for the king and the chance to elect members of the Cabinet.
Students, members of “I am coming” movement, chanted “We want constitutional reforms. We want a complete change to policies.“
Jordan's king enjoys absolute powers, ruling by decree and he can appoint and dismiss Cabinets and parliament whenever he wants, the AP reported.
According to students, around 200 government supporters attacked protesters with batons, pipes and hurled rocks at them, leaving eight people with head, arms and legs injuries.
The students say that police did nothing to help them and that police forces just stood there and watch them getting beaten.
