Serbian Ambassador to Indonesia Zoran Jovanovic stated in Jakarta Wednesday that they have no information that any citizen of Serbia has been injured in the earthquake that hit the Indonesian province of Aceh Wednesday.

Jovanovic told Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) that the majority of Serbian citizens, of whom there are only a few in Indonesia, are either on the islands of Java or Bali, both of which are over 1,000 kilometers away from the provincial capital Banda Aceh.

The earthquake measuring 8.7 on the Richter scale was registered on the sea bed near the coast of the Aceh province, after which a tsunami warning was issued in the entire Indian Ocean area.

According to the American Geological Institute which registers all earthquakes across the world, the epicenter of the earthquake was 33 kilometers below sea level, about 495 km southwest of Banda Aceh. The tsunami that occurred in the Indian Ocean in 2004 claimed 170,000 lives in Aceh.
