The secret actions of Croatian soldiers have been detailed in 13 of the 92,000 secret American government documents leaked several days ago on web site WikiLeaks.

Croatian soldiers have been in Afghanistan for the past seven years, and some of the documents refer to events of which Croatian public was only partially informed, the daily Jutarnji List writes.

One of the events is a Taliban ambush on several Croatian soldiers from the Operational Mentor and Liaison Team (OMLT) on 19 August 2009 along with members of the Afghani army.

Two Afghani soldiers were wounded and Croatian soldiers summoned medical assistance following the crossfire. According to the daily, the Croatian Ministry of Defence (MORH) had not informed the public of this event.

Another incident detailed in the reports involves a wounded Croatian soldier Ivan Husar who was injured by grenade splinters. The Ministry of Defence’s report did not disclose that the grenade that wounded Husar was fired by an American soldier.

Some of the duties that Croatian soldiers perform in Afghanistan are described in general terms, without many details. In addition to training the Afghani army, Croatian soldiers are often involved in surveillance ops where there is a suspicion of improvised explosive devices or after these devices have already exploded.

It is not uncommon that they find themselves under fire of Taliban forces in such situations, Jutarnji List writes.
