Besides the fact that every day we hear about accidents happening in the roads of Albania, the General Directorate of Roads declared that the number of accidents followed by death has decreased.

Head of the General Directorate of Roads Vullnet Topalli said that this is a merit of the well-organization of the police structures, and he compares this year’s figures with those of the two previous ones.

“During July 2010, 36 accidents have been followed by death. Meanwhile, during July 2009, there have been 42 similar cases. I remind you that during this period, a greater number of vehicles have been traveling in the roads of Albania compared to the same month of the last year,” said Vullnet Topalli.

On the other hand, he defines as a success the great number of fines and cases of suspension of the driver’s licenses.

“60,000 fines have been issued during July 2010. Meanwhile, the number of fines issued during July 2009 reaches to 50,955. 1,784 driver’s licenses have been suspended during July 2010, and during July 2009, the number reached to 739,” said Topalli.

Only during July 2010, 51 people died because of road accidents. Unfortunately, even August is showing the same figures. Nearly 90 percent of the accidents that have happened in the main national axes have been caused by foreign number-plate vehicles.
