Bulgaria is to start importing natural gas from Azerbaijan using a technology that has never been employed so far anywhere else on the globe, the Bulgarian Ambassador in Baku, Vasily Kalinov, has announced.

At the end of June, Bulgaria’s President Georgi Parvanov paid a visit to Azerbaijan. This was a working visit aimed at accelerating the practical activities over the implementation of the terms in the agreements signed in 2009 between the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) and Bulgaria’s state-run gas operator Bulgargaz.

The visit was also related to the desire of the presidents of both countries to open a sea terminal for transporting gas in the Georgian Black sea port Kulevi, ambassador Kalinov pointed out.

Work groups have already been set up to work on this project and the final version of the document for determining the construction schedule of the new facilities will soon be completed.
