Albanian Deputy Prime Minister Iljir Meta resigned on Friday, after being accused of participating in a huge corruption scandal, Reuters reported.

Albanian Deputy Prime Minister Iljir Meta resigned on Friday, after being accused of participating in a huge corruption scandal, Reuters reported.

A local TV station aired a video showing Meta and a minister agreeing to influence the awarding of a contract with RSD 700,000 provision (RSD 1 = EUR 105).

Meta is the leader of the Socialist Movement for Integration, and his resignation could lead to a crisis of Salji Berisa’s coalition government.

Iljir Meta told a local TV that it is clear that the release of a videotape is a political and electoral attack of a mafia clan.

Meta accused the leading opposition Socialist party and its Head Edi Rama of publishing the videotape, the ATA Agency reported.
